Mon. 8/18 7:05: Report to Homeroom

General Announcements:

  • Parents who plan to drop off and pick up their son/daughter at school need to use the drop off circle in the lot on 58th Street South.  Please do not drop off/pick up your child in any other location on our campus or on side streets near our school.  Using the drop off circle helps keep all of our children safe as they travel to and from school
  • Students who walk to and from school should remember to stay alert at all times by watching for traffic.  Be sure to use the crosswalks to help ensure drivers can see you and never assume the driver of an oncoming car actually sees you until they stop

Students and parents should thoroughly review our website

  • BLUE/GOLD calendars for August and early September
  • Summer reading lists – need to be completed by the first day of school
  • Homeroom list for our first day of school
  • Orientation and new student information powerpoints
  • Parent and community monthly meeting options
  • Graduation requirements
  • BCHS dress code
  • 2014-2015 senior and early graduate fees and activities timeline

Extended Learning Opportunities:  Our after school extended learning program (ELP) will begin on Tuesday, 8/26/14.  ELP will be available every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:15pm to 3:15pm in room 4-101.  You can pick up ELP registration forms in room 4-101, the guidance offices, Ms. Harris in 4-145, or Mr. Bernstein in 4-126.  Our ELP offers credit recovery, course tutoring, and PSAT, ACT, SAT, PERT, PSAT, FCAT, EOC, and ASVAB assessment preparation.

Student Parking:  Any student who wants to park on our campus needs to come to the bookkeeping office to purchase a parking permit.  Permits can be purchased for $5.00 starting on Wednesday, 8/13/14, - be sure to bring your driver’s license, car registration, and proof of insurance.  For an extra $10.00 ($15.00 total) seniors can select and personalize one of our numbered spaces in the student lot for the 14-15 school year.  Students must park in the lot that is north of 7th Avenue.  Remember that parking on campus is a privilege!

Free Breakfast and Lunch:  Under a federal program (CEP), all students at The BCHS will be able to receive a free breakfast and a free lunch this year.  If he/she has not already done so, students will need to see our cafeteria manager to have their palm scanned.  The palm scanning is used to for student identification that is needed to receive the free meals.

Our fall sports are up and running, please be sure to contact the respective coach if you need participation information and paperwork:

Monday, 8/18/14:

  • The first day of school for students will begin with a homeroom period.  The list of homerooms will be posted throughout our campus on the first day of school and it is already posted on the right side of our website homepage.  During the homeroom period, which begins at 7:05am, students will receive many different required forms and schedules for the new school year.  These forms need to be returned to your student’s first or second period teacher by Friday, 8/22/14.  After the homeroom period, students will transition to period 1 then follow our normal BLUE Day schedule (periods 1, 3, lunch, 5, and 7)
  • SAC Meeting in the CWMP Auditorium @ 6pm.  The purpose of this meeting is to review our 14-15 School Improvement Plan (SIP) draft and to have interested students, parents, and community members sign up to participate in our SAC roster

Tuesday, 8/19/14:

  • The second day of school is a GOLD day (periods 2, 4, lunch, 6, and 8) – we do not have a homeroom on Tuesday, go straight to period 2

Wednesday, 8/20/14:

  • Student orientation assemblies for buildings 4 and 5 during period one for 9th grade, period three for 10th grade, and period 5 for 11th grade.  All seniors will have their assembly during period 7.  The assemblies are during the second part of each period, so students should go directly to class and we will call them down to the auditorium via the intercom

Thursday, 8/21/14:

  • First fire evacuation drill of the year at 9am – this allows us to practice our processes and locations for each classroom

Friday, 8/22/14:
